A man was arrested for shooting his ex-wife and kidnapping their one-year-old son. The incident took place in Lizella, Georgia, on Sunday (May 3).

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said a neighbor witnessed a man dragging a woman to a car and shooting her. When the neighbor tried to intervene, the man pointed the gun at the person and drove off. The neighbor went home and alerted the police. Following this, deputies responded to Sherwood Blvd. around 11.30 p.m. Sunday.

All the local hospitals were asked to keep an eye for a woman who had been shot. The Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon reported that a 24-year-old woman showed up with a gunshot wound. It was revealed that the woman’s ex-husband, identified as 25-year-old Michael Lipford, had visited her. He then kidnapped their infant child and shot her.

A lookout was issued for the suspect. Around 2 a.m. Monday (May 4), a deputy noticed the man’s car at a home. He was taken into custody and the child was saved.

The accused was charged with aggravated assault. Sheriff’s office said the charges will be upgraded to “kidnapping, child endangerment, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.” Investigation into the case was ongoing. Meanwhile, the mother was recovering at the hospital and was listed stable.

The incident comes a day after a Kentucky man was arrested for kidnapping his four-year-old son. The accused, identified as 34-year-old Sterling Bolin, entered a residence in the 10000 block of Leelah Way and abducted the boy. Investigation revealed that the man was in Indiana.

Indiana State Police deputies attempted a traffic stop but Bolin didn’t stop and led the authorities to a high-speed chase. The man then took the child to a home and barricaded himself. He also threatened to shoot the boy. Following a stand-off, the man surrendered. The child was rescued and released to his mother. The accused was taken into custody charged with one count each of kidnapping, wanton endangerment, burglary and terroristic threatening. Nobody was injured in the incident.
