  • "God of War: Ragnarok" was first teased in September 2020
  • The upcoming sequel is confirmed to release on PS5
  • The next "God Of War" installment is in the works

Sony officially showcased the first teaser trailer of the next "God of War" installment last year and confirmed that it would release on PS5. However, the Japanese gaming giant has not publicly announced that the game would also launch on PlayStation 4. Apparently, the much-awaited sequel to the successful 2018 title might only be available in Sony's new generation gaming console.

The information about the platform of "God of War: Ragnarok" has come from industry insider Navtra. This claim was actually an old one but was just rediscovered by Comicbook as discussions about the highly anticipated sequel intensified in the weeks before the E3 2021. According to the insider, "God Of War: Ragnarok," "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart," and "Demon's Souls" were all set to only release on the PS5, based on the information they have received.

Meanwhile, the insider has noted that titles like "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" and "Horizon Forbidden West" would likely release on both PlayStation 4 and PS5. "What I've been hearing for a while was that Miles, Sackboy, and Horizon are cross-gen, and Demon's, Ratchet, and GoW2 are PS5 only." Navtra had, however, while making his original claim last year: "Bad info is always a possibility, but since everything else was basically confirmed yesterday, I find it hard to believe that GoW2 is the outlier."

Since this is not official information, fans should temper their expectations and take it with a bit of salt. In fact, even Navtra has admitted that what they have heard about Sony's plans could be outdated. Sony confirmed that "God Of War: Ragnarok" would be released sometime this year when it announced the game back in September 2020.

However, recent rumors have suggested that Sony may have already delayed the game. The Japanese gaming giant has not offered any new information about the sequel and has not yet revealed its official name after it was teased last year. PlayStation's major titles like "Gran Turismo 7" have been pushed into next year and the silence that surrounds "God Of War: Ragnarok" is a seemingly subtle indication that the sequel might not release this year.

The next "God Of War" title is in development.
