A 16-year-old girl was saved by a good Samaritan from a violent attack in the middle of a Colorado street earlier this week.

The unnamed good Samaritan reported to police at 12:23 p.m. Thursday that a man — later identified as 39-year-old Jacobo Wright Mendoza, of Drake — and a girl, who was not named, were standing outside of a car in the middle of a Glen Haven road, according to a press release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

After hearing the girl yelling for help, the Samaritan drove up to the scene, and the teen immediately got into his car. The witness sped away and drove to the nearest fire station to seek help, police said.

However, Mendoza allegedly appeared at the scene and intentionally crashed his car into the other man’s vehicle. The suspect then got out of his car and pulled out the teenage girl from the good Samaritan's vehicle, before allegedly "violently" physically assaulting her.

The good Samaritan managed to restrain the suspect and prevent him from doing further harm until police arrived.

“The good Samaritan intervened and restrained the suspect until he was detained by an [Larimer County Sheriff’s Office] deputy, who was en route and in the immediate area when the original call was dispatched,” the sheriff’s office stated in the news release.

The girl was transported to a hospital in Loveland after sustaining serious injuries from the attack. Mendoza was brought to a different hospital for medical evaluation.

When the suspect and victim were interviewed, it was discovered that the girl and the man knew each other. No further details about the incident are available as of this writing.

“This is a complex and ongoing investigation based on the substantial follow up that is needed,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Mendoza was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, unlawful sexual contact by the use of force and attempted second-degree assault.

The identity of the 16-year-old girl’s savior was not released. However, some in the community are eager to find out who it is, noting that an incident like this was unusual in the area, KDVR reported.

“Everybody wants to know all the details,” Becky Childs, the owner of the Glen Haven General Store, was quoted by the outlet as saying Friday. “I would love to know his name.”

“It’s a community of people who like it all quiet, that’s why we’re all here, so this kind of thing is not acceptable,” she added.

Police are encouraging those who may have information regarding the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 970-416-1985 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868. Tipsters will remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
