KEY POINTS

  • The character beta test will run from Aug. 17 to 21
  • Players can choose from three of the new Elite Specializations
  • Beta characters will be deleted once the beta period ends

A live beta test for the new Elite Specializations for “Guild Wars 2: End Of Dragons” is about to happen soon, and it will allow all players to try out the new expansion content for free for a limited time.

The “End Of Dragons” expansion is set to bring the game back to Cantha, an Asia-inspired region that’s filled with high mountain peaks, dense greenery and more deadly factions and creatures to fight against. While the region itself won’t be available during the live beta test, players will at least get to try out the new specializations that are all inspired from the lore of Cantha.

Luckily, everyone who owns a “Guild Wars 2” account that’s in good standing can join the beta test. This includes free-to-play accounts of players who have not purchased any of the two expansions or pre-purchased “End Of Dragons.” The beta starts on Aug. 17 and will end on Aug. 21.

Players who log in during this time will notice three new character slots on their character select screen. These slots will be dedicated to the three Elite Specializations that will be made available during the first testing phase. Only beta characters can occupy these slots and they will all be deleted automatically once the testing period is over.

Test characters can be taken to any of the existing areas and activities in “Guild Wars 2.” Players can try these new specializations out in instanced content, open world areas and even the PvP and WvW modes.

So far, only the Mesmer class’ Elite Specialization is confirmed to be a part of the initial beta test. The other two specializations are speculated to be the ones for the Necromancer and the Guardian based on the designs of the characters in their concept art. The Necromancer specialization will be equipped with a pistol on the main-hand while the Guardian will receive a sword for their off-hand slot.

The Mesmer’s Virtuoso specialization was previously revealed during the last developer stream. This specialization features Power-based traits with a main-hand dagger weapon and ephemeral blades that replace the Mesmer’s career skills.

The two other specializations will be featured in a devstream on ArenaNet’s Twitch channel this Friday, Aug. 13.
