Syfy has renewed “Happy!” for Season 2 ahead of the show’s Season 1 finale this week.

Shortly after the renewal was announced, cast members Christopher Meloni (Nick Sax), Patton Oswalt (voice of Happy), Ritchie Coster (Mr. Blue), Lili Mirojnick (Merry), Medina Senghore (Amanda), Patrick Fischler (Smoothie), and Bryce Lorenzo (Hailey) all took to social media to share the good news. Executive producer Brian Taylor also posted a tweet for all those who were offended by the show. “To those offended by @HappySYFY don’t worry, we promise S2 will be safe, conventional, formulaic and family friendly in every way,” Taylor joked.

Meloni replied to Taylor’s tweet, writing, “Hey @theunrealBT I am looking forward to playing it safe with u. My motto: no risk, perfect!”

The Season 2 renewal doesn’t come as a surprise, as “Happy!” has been a breakout hit for Syfy. According to Deadline, “Happy!’s” pilot episode ranks as the best series premiere on the network since the debut of “The Magicians” in December 2016 across all key demos. In Live+3 ratings, “Happy!’s” first episode drew 1.708 million viewers in total viewers and 779,000 in adults 18-49.

“‘Happy!’ struck a chord with our Syfy audience and disrupted the TV landscape with its unique storytelling and outrageous performances led by Christopher Meloni,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “If people thought this season was crazy – I can’t wait for fans to see what [executive producers] Grant Morrison, Brian Taylor and the entire cast and crew have in store for Sax and Happy!”

In this week’s Season 1 finale, Nick and Happy find themselves locked in a climatic confrontation to rescue Hailey from Very Bad Santa’s (Joseph D. Reitman) lair.

In the trailer for the episode, Happy tells Nick that he has come up with an idea on how they can locate Very Bad Santa. Moments later, Happy is seen threatening who appears to be Very Bad Santa’s imaginary friend. Happy’s idea appears to have worked as Nick is shown hitting Very Bad Santa’s head with a concrete block at the end of the promo clip.

According to Syfy, the season-ender will wrap up Nick’s redemption arc. And by the time Season 2 rolls around, Nick will be a full-fledged hero, ready to solve crimes with Happy.

“Happy!” Season 1 finale, titled “I Am the Future,” airs on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. EST on Syfy.
