HBO Max Drops 'Gossip Girl' Reboot Trailer; Fans React

Streaming platform HBO Max has shared the official trailer of the "Gossip Girl" reboot version on Twitter, leaving some fans “confused” and others “intrigued.” It will premiere on July 8.

Taking to its official Twitter handle Wednesday, HBO Max stated: “No secret is safe. @gossipgirl is back, and she’s making up for lost time. New episodes of Gossip Girl are streaming July 8 on HBO Max."

The trailer opened with new characters played by actors Emily Alyn Lind, Thomas Doherty, Eli Brown, Evan Mock, Whitney Peak, and Jordan Alexander. Kristen Bell, who narrated the trailer, revealed that these characters were friends since they were babies. She will reprise her role in the series.

The HBO Max series is penned and executive produced by Joshua Safran. Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment are serving as producers in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios.

The original "Gossip Girl" drama series was released in 2007 featuring Bell, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Taylor Momsen in key roles. The reboot version of the "Gossip Girl" follows the same storyline of privileged teenagers’ lifestyle in Manhattan.

Fans were quick to react after the trailer dropped. One of them called the trailer “confusing” as it is not clear who is playing Blair Waldorf's character.

Meester originally played Waldorf's character.

Another one noted that the characters are different in the reboot and said: "Oh hell no. Then why have the title Gossip Girl if you not gonna have the same characters."

One user agreed with the above comment and added: "Exactly they should've had a whole new title. just like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series lol may be a mouthful but at least you can differentiate it from the movie (sic)."

"I'm addicted to this s..omg give me more (sic)....where is Pretty little liar original sin and just like that content..I need them too," stated another fan.

However, one of the fans tried to connect new characters with the original series. "New group of kids Audrey(blonde girl) is kinda like the Blair likewise Julien (shaved head) is the Serena of the group I guess, Zoya (new girl) is probably the Jenny of the group," the user stated.

Another noted: "It isn't a reboot, it's a new series in the same universe."
