The Argentine star has also been the face of global companies like Gillette, Turkish Airlines and Tata Motors. According to Wealthy Gorilla, Messi's overall wealth is estimated to be around $400m.

On an individual level, he has clinched a record six Ballon d'Or awards – one more than Ronaldo.

In 712 caps for Barcelona, Messi has netted 622 times, while he has 70 goals from 13 appearances for his national side.

Messi, who is currently contracted with the Catalan club until the summer of 2021, has a clause that would allow him to leave Nou Camp for free at the end of the ongoing 2019-20 season.

He has been linked with a move away from Barca following his recent row with Barca's sporting director Eric Abidal.

The former Barca defender, who has played alongside Messi during his playing days, recently admitted that contract discussions with Messi are “never easy.”

“Leo said that Barca is everything for him, that he wants to stay here, from there there are conditions. We are talking about the best player in the world and having a renewal with such a player is never easy,” Abidal told Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
