The original slasher, Michael Myers, made a comeback in a huge way last year. Director David Gordon Green’s “Halloween” made the smart decision to ignore decades of other questionable entries to create a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic, bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode to seek vengeance on the mass murderer who changed her life 40 years prior. On a tight $10 million budget, the film became the biggest hit in the series with a $255 million worldwide gross.

Naturally, with this kind of success and a solid 79 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, fans may be curious to know if-and-when a follow-up will be released. Luckily, a new report seems to have the scoop.

As reported by Collider, Universal and Blumhouse are said to be planning to release “Halloween 2” in October 2020, with most everyone from the original set to return. Curtis is said to be returning as the hard-boiled survivor Laurie, with Judy Greer and Ali Matichak also back as her daughter and granddaughter.

Green is said to have written the script for the sequel and is also expected to be returning to direct as well. Green wrote the first film with comedian and long-time collaborator Danny McBride, who is mentioned as a "likely return" in Collider’s report.

The production is said to be gearing up to begin principal photography after Labor Day, with eyes on Oct. 16, 2020, release date that Blumhouse has already staked out for an unspecified project.

Blumhouse did not respond to Collider's request for confirmation on any of the information in their report.
