John Cena has found a great way to cope with his "despair and sadness" following his split from ex Nikki Bella.

During an interview with Us Weekly, Cena revealed his solution to overcoming the difficulties in his life: laughter. “I think humor’s a wonderful thing for all occasions,” the 41-year-old wrestling star told the outlet while discussing his partnership with Hefty trash bags.

Cena explained that it was humor that helped him through some of his darkest moments in life. “It certainly helps in moments of despair and sadness because it just … brings light to a situation,” the "Bumblebee" star explained. “I find strength in many any other avenues but I never … short myself when it comes to humor. I guess I’m always OK for a good laugh, even if I’m really being uppity and I don’t want to laugh, I can’t … ever be the guy where this isn’t the time or place for a joke.”

Cena added that he has many funny people around him who helped him hone his comedic timing. He also said that humor is "wonderful" because it gives people a reason to smile, which he believes is the "start to feeling good."

The wrestler-turned-actor has had his fair share of heartache over the years. He and fellow wrestling star Nikki Bella called off their engagement and parted ways back in April 2018 after six years together.

At the time, the exes released a joint statement announcing that they have decided to split a year after they got engaged at Wrestlemania. Cena and Bella wrote in the statement obtained by Us Weekly that the decision to break up was a "difficult" one for them and that they still have a lot of "love and respect" for each other. The two stars also requested that fans and media "respect" their privacy following their split.

Shortly after announcing their split, Cena shared a message that seemed to reveal how he was coping with the breakup on Twitter. “Hardship, loss, and humility are extremely difficult waters to navigate, but perseverance thru them builds a strength to withstand anything life throws your way,” he wrote on April 16.

However, back in May, he told the hosts of the "Today" show that Bella had blindsided him with the decision to call off their engagement. Cena explained that he had his "heart broken out of nowhere." The wrestler said that he experienced a "series of bad feelings" due to this.

There were rumors back in May that Cena and Bella had rekindled their romance, but Bella later clarified that this was not the case. In July, the WWE diva explained that she and Cena were "just friends" in a video posted on her and sister Brie Bella's Youtube channel.
