  • Liverpool defeated Chelsea in the League Cup final Sunday
  • It was Liverpool's record ninth League Cup win
  • Jurgen Klopp now has five trophies with the current side

Liverpool FC defeated Chelsea in the final to lift the League Cup trophy, their 68th silverware in the club history.

After being 0-0 through the 90 minutes and another half an hour of extra time, the final was decided on a penalty shoot-out. All the 10 players from Liverpool and Chelsea scored a successful strike from the spot before it went down for the goalkeepers to come in front of the goal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp showed immense faith in goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, picking him ahead of the first-choice Alisson Becker for the League Cup final. Justifying the faith, Kelleher not only made some incredible saves during the game but also scored an important penalty.

With Chelsea glovesman Kepa Arrizabalaga failing to convert his penalty, Liverpool triumphed in the League for a record ninth time.

It was Liverpool's fifth trophy in the Klopp-era and overall, it was trophy no. 68 for Liverpool Football Club, the Merseyside club that was established in 1892.
