Since Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, the press has reported on all of the times that she has broken royal protocol and strayed from traditions. The Duchess of Sussex has continued to make mistakes when it comes to following royal rules. However, a former staff member noted, Meghan appears to be heading down the same path as Princess Diana.

When Princess Diana married Prince Charles in 1981, she was reportedly clueless about her new life as a member of the Royal Family. According to her former butler, Diana was left to figure out things on her own, and it appears Meghan is being forced to do the same.

Paul Burrell told Yahoo’s “Royal Box,” Princess Diana wasn’t given advice or guidance about fitting into the Royal Family. “Would you believe there is no rulebook. There is no etiquette lesson. There are no advisers,” he said.

“Nobody prepares people coming into the Royal Family. I think that is where it has gone wrong in the past. Not even Diana was given tuition into entering,” the former palace employee added.

Instead, Burrell believes Meghan will have to learn from her mistakes. The former butler claimed, Meghan will have to put her social and political opinions aside if she wants to be respected in the royal family.

“What comes with maturity is a set of beliefs, and they don’t always sit well with the Royal Family. She has to toe the party line,” Burrell explained.

When Meghan first joined the Royal Family, there were reports that she wanted to modernize the monarchy. However, Meghan has reportedly made little progress in her mission due to the royal rules she must follow.

A source previously told Us Weekly, Meghan felt constrained due to her new restrictions. “It’s just been frustrating and stressful to have no voice,” a royal source explained.

“She’s always relied on her own voice to stand up for others, and for herself. So not being able to say anything is a debilitating feeling. She’s always been so independent, her entire life, and that’s all been taken away from her,” the insider added.

For the time being, Meghan is on maternity leave following the birth of baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duchess of Sussex is expected to return to her royal duties in the fall.
