Princess Diana was the one that matched Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew at the Royal Ascot in 1985. However, details about how she performed her magic on the former royal couple have been kept under wraps.

In the book “Sarah: HRH The Duchess of York,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward said that it was the Princess of Wales that paved the way for Ferguson to be invited to the Royal Ascot so that she could be with Prince Andrew.

Fergie was believed to be the right, age and the right background for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s son. She is also already familiar with the royal family and she has also been friends with Princess Diana for years.

“Sarah’s acquaintanceship with the Princess of Wales had developed into a close friendship and while the Windsor gathering was very much the Sovereign’s private gathering, she enjoys the company of younger people and naturally enough sought the guidance of her daughter-in-law when she came to draw up the guest list,” she said.

Seward also revealed that it was Princess Diana who made sure that Ferguson and Prince Andrew would sit beside each during lunch and dinner.

“The Princess, an incorrigible romantic, may have been trying her hand at a little matchmaking,” Seward said.

Princess Diana continued to encourage Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s romance until they finally made things official. The late royal’s dad, Earl Spencer, previously said that Princess Diana and Ferguson are great friends.

After the Duchess of York joined the royal family, Princess Diana’s life became a bit easier because she finally had someone to confide in. However, the two female royals’ relationship changed quickly.

Princess Diana felt jealous of Ferguson because she suddenly became the most-loved royal of the Queen and Prince Philip. Fergie was also good at a lot of things that Princess Diana didn’t excel in so they were always compared by the royal family.
