An infant died after a stray dog entered his home and dragged him away from the cradle. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Monday.

Police said the one-year-old boy was sleeping in the cradle when the dog entered the home and took him away. The infant’s parents and grandmother were busy with household chores when the incident took place.

A while later, some children saw the canine holding the baby in its jaws. They rescued the baby by chasing the dog. The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe bite marks on the head. The boy’s condition deteriorated and he was rushed to another hospital in the district where he succumbed to injuries.

The incident comes less than a month after a seven-year-old was attacked by a stray dog inside her apartment complex in Gujarat’s capital city Ahmedabad. The canine attacked the girl a few minutes after she stepped out of her home. Her father intervened and chased away the dog, however, the girl had suffered injuries to her face by then. The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated for the injuries.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in June, a sleeping three-month-old baby was mauled to death by stray dogs. The baby was sleeping in the courtyard of his home when the canines took him away. A few hours later, the headless body of the infant was found in the nearby field.
