Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid's mother, Yolanda Hadid, didn't have the best relationship even before their dispute and his split from the supermodel, a report has claimed.

Multiple outlets confirmed this week that Malik, 28, and Gigi, 26, had called it quits after nearly six years together following a TMZ report claiming that the former One Direction singer "struck" Yolanda during a disagreement last month — an allegation that he has since adamantly denied.

However, an unnamed insider has claimed to Us Weekly that Malik and Yolanda have "always had issues with each other" long before their altercation.

"Their relationship was fraught with tension," the source alleged, before further claiming that within the family, "Zayn and Yolanda have the biggest issues with one another."

But though Malik was at odds with Yolanda, the singer has a "great" relationship with his and Gigi's now-13-month-old daughter, Khai, according to the tipster. The source added that the Hadid family "knows he is a good father."

One source also claimed to People that "there's no love lost between Yolanda and Zayn" following their argument.

"Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild. She has had some issues with Zayn," an unnamed family friend close to Gigi added. "She thinks he could treat Gigi better. This is creating conflicts between Yolanda and Zayn."

Malik was charged with four counts of harassment for allegedly grabbing Yolanda and shoving her into a dresser during a disagreement at his Pennsylvania home on Sept. 29, "causing mental anguish and physical pain," according to court documents obtained by Page Six. He was also accused of hurling insults at Yolanda and ordering her to "stay away from [my] f–king daughter."

The singer pleaded no contest to the charges and was fined and ordered to 90 days of probation for each count for a total of 360 days.

Malik was also ordered to complete an anger management class and a domestic violence supervision program and was prohibited from having any contact with Yolanda or the security guard who had been present at his home during the altercation.

Malik previously defended himself in a lengthy Twitter statement Thursday, noting that he is a "private person" who wants to "create a safe and private space for my daughter," implying that Yolanda "leaked" the story to the press.

"In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago," he continued. "I am hopeful thought for healing and for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves."

Yolanda has yet to publicly comment on the incident, but a spokesperson for Gigi said in a statement that she is "solely focused on the best for Khai at the moment."
