Fairies, the winged, mischievous, magical belles born out of the creative force of imagination changed the way of how we perceive the world.

It’s the young children’s curious fascination towards fairies and their innocent bafflement of whether to fear or love them that kept the fairies’ presence alive in their minds for generations, passing down the magical tales as oral traditions.

To honor the fairies that shaped our childhoods and served as inspirations in the pretend play sessions, June 24 is designated as International Fairy Day.

On this occasion, here are some quotes about fairies that will take you back to your childhood. (Courtesy: goodreads.com)

  • "I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"- John Lenon
  • "Fairies have to be one thing or the other, because being so small they, unfortunately, have room for one feeling only at a time."- J.M. Barrie.
  • "It is frightfully difficult to know much about the fairies, and almost the only thing for certain is that there are fairies wherever there are children."- J.M. Barrie
  • "Her lips were frosted with sugar and faeriedust."- Allyse Near
  • "It is pardonable for children to yell that they believe in fairies, but it is somehow sinister when the piping note shifts from the puerile to the senile."- Christopher Hitchens
  • "The world was full of dangers now that she was pregnant: mercury in tuna, hot tubs, beer, secondhand smoke, over-the-counter medicine. Not to mention crazy baby-abducting fairy kings."- Jennifer McMahon
  • "They were beautiful beyond words, beautiful beyond understanding. So beautiful, I wanted to tear out my heart and hand it over, because after seeing them, I surely wouldn't have any more use for it."- Sarah Zettel
