International Polar Bear Day is annually commemorated on Feb. 27 to raise awareness about the issues that polar bears face and how to protect them amid the huge climate change threat.

Polar bears are marine mammals, who are found in the Arctic. Polar bears rely heavily on sea ice for traveling, hunting, resting, and mating. However, climate change has largely threatened their habitat.

Here are some quotes, courtesy AZquotes, to celebrate these furry animals on this day:

1. "Polar bears did very well in the warmer times. They didn't die out at all; they didn't die out in the last 10,000 years, nor during the previous interglacial, nor the one before that. So, they're just used as a deceitful heartthrob; you know, to pluck your heartstrings because the polar bears might die out." – Piers Corbyn

2. "The polar bear for many has become a living symbol of the dangers of global warming. The powerful kings of the arctic are finding their habitat shrinking." – Sam Champion

3. "I think that I was slightly naive. I thought that if I showed people the beauty of the Arctic and the beauty of the polar bears that they would care so much that they would stand up and try to make a change." – Lewis Gordon

4. "Even as I speak, the very last polar bear may be dying of hunger on account of climate change, on account of us. And I sure miss the polar bears. Their babies are so warm and cuddly and trusting, just like ours." – Kurt Vonnegut

5. "Polar bears can swim 100 miles. They aren't like us. We might be 'stranded' on an ice floe if there's no land nearby, and we had no helicopter and no jet ski. We might be in trouble, but they're polar bears, and they can live in icy cold water by design. They love it." – Rush Limbaugh

6. "For humans, the Arctic is a harshly inhospitable place, but the conditions there are precisely what polar bears require to survive - and thrive. 'Harsh' to us is 'home' for them. Take away the ice and snow, increase the temperature by even a little, and the realm that makes their lives possible literally melts away." – Sylvia Earle
