An analyst report predicted that Apple’s upcoming 2019 iPhone will have support for the Apple Pencil, along with a few more features.

Following a recent Apple earnings call, analyst firm Citi Research has released a report outlining its outlook based on the Cupertino company’s performance, and gave some suggestions as to what features Apple’s upcoming devices should have. Business Insider, after seeing the report, said Citi Research expects this year’s upcoming iPhone models to feature support for the Apple Pencil.

A “Support for iPhone Pencil/Stylus” prediction isn’t new, Apple Insider noted. Previous rumors, dating from last year, said the iPhone XS and XS Max will have support for the Apple Pencil. Of course, as everybody knows, these rumors didn’t materialize.

Earlier reports also predicted Apple Pencil-supporting iPhones. In 2017, a report also claimed that Apple’s engineers were working on a version of the iPhone that features support for the Apple stylus. This iPhone, the report said, will be released in 2019. Well, it’s 2019 now, and maybe it’s time for the prediction made in 2017 to come true.

Other predictions

Citi Research also believes Apple’s upcoming iPhones this year will have a few more features such as bezel-free displays, larger batteries, and enhanced cameras. It expects the new iPhones to feature a 10MP camera in front, and 14MP cameras at the back. It also expects the lowest-priced among the three iPhones to feature two rear cameras, while the other two will have three rear cameras.

These predictions simply make sense. Previous reports said the upcoming iPhones will have upgraded camera setups, with the iPhone XR successor (known as the iPhone 11R) having two rear cameras; while the iPhone XS and XS Max successors (known as the iPhone 11 and 11 Max, respectively), will have three cameras at the back. All of these cameras will be placed inside a square camera module.

The bezel-free design also makes sense. Apple has been using the notch it introduced on the 2017 iPhone X, and it’s about time to do away with it. Removing the notch and creating a bezel-free display also means wider screen estate, which, combined with the Apple Pencil, is perfect for use in photo-editing and graphics-manipulating apps.

If Citi Research’s predictions materialize, consumers can expect to have a powerful on-the-go graphics editing device that can fit in a jeans pocket. These are still predictions, though, and so it’s best to wait for further updates.
