Production on Apple’s next-generation iPhone 12 might be tantalizingly close. According to a report from Taiwan-based DigiTimes, the tech giant will conclude the “Engineering, Validation, and Testing” phase for its next smartphone by the end of June, with production set to commence in July.

While this may be good news for Apple fans, questions remain as to whether the full iPhone 12 line will be able to launch simultaneously. Numerous Apple analysts have reported that while the line is likely to be announced all at once in September as usual, the higher-end products may face delays due to difficulties in implementing mmWave 5G support.

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo specifically reported that changes to the antenna used in the high-end models might have led to a production delay.

The lower-end 12s are expected to support only lower-frequency 5G.

The iPhone 12 line is expected to include base models with 5.4 and 6.1-inch display options, and a Pro line with 6.1 and 6.7-inch models.

All are expected to include OLED screens and a smaller notch at the top, addressing one of the long-standing criticisms of the iPhone’s design since it was introduced with the iPhone X.
