Apple will hold its press event next week and is expected to reveal the much-anticipated iPhone 8. Before the Cupertino giant unveils the 10th anniversary iPhone, a leaked video uploaded on Reddit [spotted by BGR] claims to show the new device.

Although the authenticity of the clip has not been confirmed, the video shows the iPhone 8 just like rumors describe it: with an edge-to-edge screen and no physical home button on the front of the smartphone.

The video isn’t perfect though, since everything is completely dark except for the display screen. The screen contains apps usually found on iOS devices, like Music, iMessage, Mail, Photos, Safari and the Camera app.

However, the video could be a fake and instead be a launcher app that is designed to make an Android look like an iOS device. BGR pointed out the signal strength and Wi-Fi indicator are placed on the right-side of the screen, instead of its usual left-side spot. The move could be because it’s a fake video, or because Apple needed to switch things around for the iPhone 8’s notch. The site also noted the device’s 18:9 aspect ratio, which hasn’t been seen before on an iOS gadget.

iPhone 8 Rumors, Features, Price, Release Date

OLED Display

The iPhone 8, which could also be called the iPhone X, iPhone Pro or iPhone Edition, is expected to be released alongside two other iPhones, the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus. The two iPhone 7s devices will reportedly use LCD displays, while the iPhone 8 is expected to sport an edge-to-edge OLED display. Samsung will reportedly supply Apple with OLED displays. Apple is said to have agreed to a two-year deal worth $9 billion with the Korean company for OLED panels. A previous report said Samsung will operate seven OLED production lines at “full scale” this month as Apple prepares to release the iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 Charging Capabilities

The iPhone 8 is rumored to come with wireless charging technology, which could include a standalone charging accessory that will be sold separately. The smartphone is also expected to support faster charging.

Home Button

Apple is expected to integrate an embedded Touch ID on the iPhone 8, while other rumors point to a home button on the back of the smartphone to make room for more screen space. The firmware in the upcoming HomePod suggests users will be able to resize and hide the home button, according to iOS developer Steve Troughton-Smith. He also said there is no API to change the home button’s color, which means it’ll have the ability to adapt to different background colors. The home button will also have tab bars that will extend under it.

Augmented Reality and Face Recognition

The iPhone is expected to support augmented reality capabilities. Apple revealed its ARKit toolset for developers in June. The ARKit allows developers to create AR apps for the iOS 11 update, which set to be released this month.

The device could also support facial recognition with its rumored 3D-sensing front camera, which could replace the Touch ID.

Delayed Release Date?

Numerous reports have pointed to a delayed launch date of the iPhone 8. Most recently, a South Korean parts supplier for Apple said the company could push back the release date of the device, claiming that Apple had not finalized the iPhone 8’s specifications until just a week ago. Meanwhile, a Cowen and Co. analyst said in June the embedded Touch ID feature is “still being worked out, ” which could be another reason for a delay.

The device is expected to be priced at more than $1,000, Goldman Sachs analysts said earlier this year.

Aside from the iPhone 8, Apple is also rumored to reveal the Apple Watch Series 3 and a new Apple TV.
