  • IU made her debut as a singer in 2008
  • She has starred in many dramas including "Hotel Del Luna"
  • "Lilac" is IU's fifth full-length album

K-pop star IU recently held a pictorial interview with fashion magazine "W Korea" where she gave fans an insight into her latest album "Lilac."

Lee Ji-eun, known professionally as IU, also shared her experiences through her 20’s and more.

During the interview, the stunning singer-turned-actress revealed that her fifth full album will be "ornate and diverse in many ways." The singer who is known for her self-composed song also disclosed that she did not compose any of the songs in "Lilac" on her own.

"When I looked at it from the perspective of a producer, I came to the conclusion that there’s no need for there to be a self-composed song by IU just because it’s an IU album," she added, according to Soompi.

The "Celebrity" star also expressed that her aim was not only to make "Lilac" enjoyable and fun to listen to but also to narrate many stories through her upcoming music. She then also explained the concept and meaning behind her album.

"In the language of flowers, ‘lilac’ means ‘memories of youth.’ I wanted to include a farewell with the message ‘I’m now going onward to my next chapter’ while also greeting my upcoming 30s at the same time," the songstress said during the interview.

The 27-year-old actress made her singing debut in 2008 and has been active in the music industry for over a decade. She has also established herself as a talented actress and has starred in K-dramas like "Hotel del Luna," "My Mister" and more.

When asked about how she feels about being 29 (Korean age), the singer replied, "To be honest, it feels like, ‘My 20s still aren’t over yet? How can there still be a year left!’" she said.

"While I reflect on my 20s, part of me wants to take it easy during the last moments of it, but I also think, 'I have to live even more intensely than ever'," the singer added.

Korean age is calculated differently compared to the rest of the world. As per the Koreans, a child is one-year-old at the time of its birth for they consider the time it spends in the mother's womb a part of its age. It is also believed a child ages another year at the turn of the calendar, i.e, on New Year’s Day, and therefore, the baby is always one or two years more than your international or western age. While in the U.S., a day after the baby is born, it turns one-day-old.

Furthermore, the singer while describing her journey as a musician said, "I worked really hard. There were also good results. I know from experience that working hard doesn’t necessarily mean you achieve good results, so I’ve been lucky."

While talking about her life as she nears 30 the singer said, “I’ve had a romantic idea about being '30' since I was young. I hope I can go ‘Ahh!’ like when you finish an exam period.”

IU’s fifth full-length album and music video titled "Lilac" was released on March 25 at 5 a.m. ET (6 p.m. KST).
