Jamie Foxx is in final talks to return as Electro in the upcoming installment of the “Spider-Man” franchise that’s starring Tom Holland in the lead role.

The Academy Award-winning star portrayed the character in the 2014 movie “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which featured Andrew Garfield as the wall-crawler, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The third movie in the highly successful series is being made by Marvel and Sony Pictures.

According to Marvel, the iconic villain, whose real name is Maxwell Dillon, was struck by lightning while repairing a power line. Instead of being killed, the accident caused a mutagenic change in his nervous system. The incident allowed him to generate and control numerous amounts of electricity.

Foxx’s first stint as Electro did not go well for him. “Amazing Spider-Man 2” received mixed reviews from critics as well as the audience. The film underperformed at the box office and earned a total of $708.9 million worldwide.

As far as the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie is concerned, Jon Watts will be donning the director’s hat once again for the upcoming project. Watts helmed the first two films — “Homecoming” and “Far From Home” — in the franchise and was praised for his impeccable skills.

Both films received universal acclaim and made a lot of money at the box office. The first movie, “Homecoming,” was released in 2017 and earned more than $880 million during its theatrical run. It currently holds a score of 92% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

On the other hand, “Far From Home,” (2019) became the first movie in the ongoing “Spider-Man” franchise to breach the billion-dollar mark globally. The movie made more than $1.1 billion at the global box office and received a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Foxx is one of the busiest Hollywood stars right now since he has a lot of projects under his hat. Apart from acting in the movies, the actor is also coming out with his first feature film as a director. The movie, entitled “All-Star Weekend,” is expected to be released in 2021.

The cast of the movie includes the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Gerard Butler, Benicio Del Toro, Eva Longoria, and Jessica Szohr in pivotal roles.
