KEY POINTS

  • Jamie Lee Curtis said her Oscar nomination was unexpected and delightful
  • The "Borderlands" star said it was a shocking morning, and then she went to reshoot for the film
  • On the set, she and her co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Cate Blanchett had a cake

Jamie Lee Curtis shared how she celebrated her Oscar nomination.

Curtis, 64, got her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in "Everything Everywhere All at Once." She is nominated for Best Supporting Actress along with Angela Bassett ("Black Panther: Wakanda Forever"), Hong Chau ("The Whale"), Kerry Condon ("The Banshees of Inisherin") and Stephanie Hsu ("Everything Everywhere All at Once"), Variety reported.

According to her, she had a cake with Cate Blanchett on the set of "Borderlands." Blanchett is nominated for the Best Lead Actress category for her performance in "Tar." Other nominees for the same category include Ana de Armas ("Blonde"), Andrea Riseborough ("To Leslie"), Michelle Williams ("The Fabelmans") and Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All at Once").

"It was a shocking morning. Unexpected and delightful," Curtis told People about her nomination, noting that her best friend, Oscar-winning documentarian Debbie Oppenheimer came over at 5: 15 a.m. to join her and her husband, Christopher Guest, to watch the announcement of nominations.

"And then I went to work on the re-shoots for 'Borderlands' with Cate Blanchett, and she had been nominated that morning, as [had] our sound designer," added Curtis. "So, we had a cake, and it was celebratory, but then we worked."

Curtis was also nominated for Golden Globes for the same role. It was her first time to be nominated at the Oscars in her over 40-year acting career, and she couldn't hide her joy.

"It is the thrill of my life, professionally. It is, because it never was something I thought would ever happen," she said.

Curtis shared her instant reaction to her nomination on Instagram. She posted a series of photos, including one when her husband hugged her and shared how her friend Oppenheimer took photos without her noticing it because she was so engrossed in the program.

"There she was in the pitch black, freezing, cold in a parka. She came in and sat with me as I had sat with her the day she was heading toward the Oscar ceremony, the year she won. We held hands. I didn't even realize she took pictures," Curtis wrote in the caption.

"The first is the moment of hearing my name, and then the thrill of my friend, Stephanie's @stephaniehsuofficial name, and the rest of the nominations, and then the best thing of all, a loving embrace for my husband. No filters. No fakery. Just the truth of a moment of joy. Captured by a friend. Hey, @everythingeverywheremovie, we went to 11!"

Cate Blanchett has already won a Critics Choice award for her tour-de-force performance in "Tar," and the film is likely to earn several Oscar nominations
