Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux may have split, but it doesn’t mean they had a drama-filled breakup. Although fans were surprised when the former couple went their separate ways, it appears the end of the romance didn’t ruin their friendship.

In a new interview with Esquire, “The Spy Who Dumped Me” star revealed he and his estranged wife are on good terms despite announcing their separation in February 2018.

“We don’t talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text,” he explained.

“Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship.”

Although their romance didn’t last, Theroux insisted he appreciates Aniston’s presence in his life. “Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She’s a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally. And I’d like to think the same for her,” he said.

Rather than close the door on their relationship and move on, Theroux appeared reluctant to simply cut an ex out of his life.

“I think that when you get good at relationships—and here I am, single—if you love the person the same way you loved them in the relationship, it would behoove you to love them the same way out of the relationship,” he said.

Aniston and Theroux began dating in 2011 and became engaged in 2012. The stars married in 2015. On Feb. 15, 2018, the former couple announced they separated in late 2017.

Since their split, Theroux has spoken fondly of Aniston and continues to send her well wishes on her birthday via social media.
