KEY POINTS

  • The Broncos have been singled out as among the teams considering Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach
  • Harbaugh could get a formal offer from the Broncos and make a return to the NFL
  • Harbaugh looms as a sensible choice owing to his 44-19-1 record with the 49ers from 2011 to 2014

The Denver Broncos are looking for a new head coach, and the name of Jim Harbaugh has surfaced.

The 59-year-old was interviewed for the head coaching vacancy of the Minnesota Vikings in February of last year.

After a lengthy talk, discussions hit a snag and Harbaugh did not get any offer from the NFL team.

With nothing on the table, Harbaugh informed the University of Michigan that he was coming back to coach the Wolverines for the 2022 season.

Having experienced that, the 2012 NFC champion coach would next say that he was done pursuing an NFL coaching gig.

However, it seems that this has taken a turn with sources claiming that the Denver Broncos are considering him to take over from their erstwhile coach in Nathaniel Hackett.

The Broncos have reportedly reached out to Harbaugh, informing him that they have an interest in taking him in as the team's next head coach according to a report from ProFootball Talk.

Denver is believed to be looking for a new head coach who has proven stock.

The two-time Big Ten champion coach had previous NFL coaching stints, having served as a quarterback coach with the Oakland Raiders (2002-2003) and as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (2011-2014).

The following weeks should be interesting for Harbaugh, who concluded another season with Michigan last Saturday, December 31.

The No. 2 Wolverines lost to the TCU Horned Frogs, 51-45, in the Fiesta Bowl College Football Playoff semifinals.

Not long after that, NFL.com revealed that the Broncos were one of the multiple teams interested in trying to woo Harbaugh back to the NFL.

In his stint as head coach of the 49ers, Harbaugh racked up a 44-19-1 record from 2011 to 2014.

Furthermore, the Broncos loom as a sensible landing spot for Harbaugh because of his connection with Condoleeza Rice, a member of the team's ownership and part of the search committee to replace Hackett.

Rice is also a prominent part of the university community at Stanford, where Harbaugh was a coach before his move to the NFL.
