On Tuesday, Johnny Depp will celebrate his 57th birthday. Since beginning his career, the actor has earned numerous fans thanks to his work in various movies, TV shows, and other creative efforts. So how much is the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star worth today as a result of his extensive body of work?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Depp is worth an estimated $200M and earns $20M per film. It has also been said that in certain years he was able to earn more than $100M. As stated by the publication, not only has his work been personally successful for Depp, but his movies have also grossed more than $3.4B in the U.S. and $8.7B worldwide at the box office.

Born in Owensboro, Kentucky, Depp moved around frequently during his childhood but maintained his love of music throughout each relocation. After dropping out of high school to focus on his band, The Kids, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue it more seriously. However, the band soon split up. After being advised by "National Treasure" actor Nicolas Cage to consider acting, Depp was cast in his first movie, the 1984 horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

From there, he began appearing in a wide range of successful projects, including "21 Jump Street," which helped him gain recognition on a wider scale. Reportedly, he earned a salary of $45K per episode for the police procedural series. Then, in 1990, he played the title role in Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands." Later, he would star in "Benny & Joon," "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Sleepy Hollow," and other titles.

The biggest role of his career arguably came in 2003 when he was brought on by Walt Disney Pictures to play Captain Jack Sparrow in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." The adventure franchise, which also featured Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, would later result in a series of sequels, including 2006's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," 2007's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," and others. In 2011, the actor told Vanity Fair that he had earned more than $300M for his part in the films.

His other lucrative role came from playing the Mad Hatter in Disney's live-action "Alice in Wonderland." After helping him earn a reported $68M USD, the 2010 movie, which also starred Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, would make over $1B worldwide.

Aside from his movies and TV shows, Depp has also lent his talents to other projects, including his band Hollywood Vampires, which he formed with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in 2015. Additionally, he also created a production company, Infinitum Nihil, in 2004.

As for how he has spent part of his impressive wealth, Elle Decor states that over the years, he has accumulated a wide variety of expensive properties, including five penthouses. Additionally, he previously owned a home and horse farm in Lexington, Kentucky. However, as reported by the Courier-Journal, it was put on the market in 2018 for $1.6M.
