Jrue Holiday appears to be on the trade block, making him arguably the best player available in the NBA offseason. As a potential piece that could swing the championship, several contenders are expected to make offers for the New Orleans Pelicans guard.

The Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets have all been linked to Holiday at some point in 2020. New Orleans is openly discussing the veteran in trade talks, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports, increasing the chances that he could start the 2020-2021 season on one of those three teams.

Brooklyn is believed to be in pursuit of a third star to put alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. With Caris Levert as the centerpiece of a deal, the Nets could put together a better realistic trade package than most teams that are thought to be in championship contention.

Levert, 26, posted career-highs of 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season. The swingman is four years younger than Holiday.

Both Denver and Miami were interested in Holiday at February’s trade deadline, Charania reported earlier this year. Neither team was willing to meet New Orleans’ asking price.

Maybe the Nuggets will consider meeting the Pelicans’ demands now that Denver looks to be just one player short of making a championship run. The Nuggets made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals in the 2020 playoffs, eventually losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Jamal Murray emerged as a star, averaging 26.5 points and 6.6 assists per game in the postseason.

Nuggets shooting guard Gary Harris would likely be involved in a Holiday trade. Denver might be unwilling to part with Michael Porter Jr., whom the Pelicans would almost certainly seek to acquire.

The Heat might be willing to include Tyler Herro in a trade for Holiday, the Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman reports. Herro played a key role in Miami reaching the NBA Finals.

It’s possible that the Heat won’t make a big trade after coming just two wins shy of winning the title.

Holiday has averaged at least 19.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in each of the last three seasons. He’s considered to be one of the best defensive guards in the NBA.
