Kate Middleton and Prince William’s vacation to Kenya in 2010 was a memorable trip for the couple. After dating for seven years, the Duke of Cambridge finally proposed to his long-time girlfriend.

Following the romantic evening of their engagement, the couple checked out of the lodge where they were staying.

However, before they left, Kate wrote a special note in the lodge’s guest book. Although she didn’t share news of her engagement in the book, she appeared to imply the couple shared a special moment during their getaway.

“Thank you for such a wonderful 24 hours! Sadly no fish to be found, but we had fun trying. I love the warm fires and candle lights—so romantic. Hope to be back soon,” Kate wrote.

Meanwhile, Prince William’s note appeared to avoid giving away any details about the couple’s special night together. “20th-21st October 2010. Such fun to be back! Brought more clothes this time! Looked after so well. Thank you, guys! Look forward to next time, soon I hope,” he wrote.

Before they announced their engagement, Kate was dubbed, “Waity Katie” by the media for staying in a relationship with William with no signs of the royal committing to a future with her.

When Prince William decided to propose, royal biographer, Katie Nicholl claimed the royal planned a special day for the two. William took Kate to a private log cabin where the two enjoyed a day of fish but failed to catch any rainbow trout.

After a long day, the couple went back to the cabin where Prince William took Kate onto the terrace and surprised her with a romantic proposal.

The couple didn’t announce their engagement until almost four weeks later on Nov. 16, 2010. “His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton are engaged to be married,” Clarence House revealed in a statement at the time.

“The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011 in London.”

Prince William and Kate were married on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now parents to three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
