Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have a particular habit when traveling abroad that Princess Diana rarely did.

According to Kara Godfrey, a journalist for Express, the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex tend to support local artists when traveling abroad, but Princess Diana rarely did. Middleton and Markle have been photographed wearing outfits designed by local designers in the country they are visiting to give a nod to their culture.

For instance, Middleton wore a grey coat by Toronto designer Bojana Sentaler during her tour in Canada with Prince William in 2017. When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited India last year, Middleton opted to wear a bohemian dress by Indian designer Anita Dongre.

Markle also does the same thing. When Prince Harry and Markle visited Edinburgh, the former actress opted for Scottish brand Strathberry for her bag. She also used Australian designer Karen Gee’s white dress on her first day in Australia.

Although these practices are good, Princess Diana rarely followed it because she preferred to stick to her favorite British designers. However, she still showed the world how she respected different nations’ cultures.

When Princess Diana visited Japan, she wore a white dress with red polka dots as a nod to the country’s national flag. However, the dress was designed by her favorite British designer, David and Elizabeth Emanuel.

When it comes to fashion, Middleton and Markle are as popular as their late mother-in-law. Whatever the two duchesses wear tend to be sold out in minutes.

However, the Duchess of Sussex proves to be more influential. Markle is the Lyst’s third most powerful fashion influencers of 2018 next to Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. On the other hand, Middleton dropped out of the top 10 this year, but she still made it to the 16th spot.

Between Markle and Middleton, the latter also wears dresses similar to Princess Diana more frequently. The Duchess of Cambridge and late Princess of Wales have had several twinning moments.

According to fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen, Middleton is aligning herself to be the next Princess Diana by following the latter’s style. If the duchess continues doing this, people will eventually perceive her the way they saw the People’s Princess.
