Kate Middleton and Prince William are accused of being the people behind the smear campaign against Meghan Markle.

The Duchess of Sussex has faced non-stop backslash from her critics since she started dating Prince Harry. Several royal fans noticed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t do anything to defend Markle.

One social media user took to Twitter and wrote that Prince William and Middleton have never defended Markle from the press and “that matters.” The post garnered various reactions, with many agreeing and blaming the Cambridges.

“They are behind the smear campaign against Meghan so they’ll never defend her,” one commented.

Meanwhile, several slammed the Cambridges for not doing what Prince Harry did to them. The Duke of Sussex has spoken publicly in Middleton’s defense when she was slammed by the press like they did to Markle.

“Willie and Katia just sucked up all the love and protection that Harry offered when his SIL was getting kicked to hell and gone by the press. He stood tall for his family.”

“Turns out they were undeserving of that loyalty,” a different netizen wrote.

Another online user also mentioned how Prince Harry supported and defended Middleton when she was expecting Prince George. Markle’s husband told the media to leave his brother and sister-in-law alone, but the Cambridges kept quiet when Prince Harry struggled. Another wrote that the future king and queen are “complicit.”

This isn’t the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were slammed for not defending Markle. Aside from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Queen Elizabeth II was also criticized for the same issue. One netizen claimed that the silence of the Queen, Middleton and all the women in the British royal family speaks for itself because “silence is a stance.”

However, some also defended Prince William and Middleton by implying that they are not the only ones who kept their silence. Another netizen said that those claims were wrong because the Duke of Cambridge already issued a statement in support of the Sussexes.

“The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” the palace said in a statement.
