Prince William gifted Princess Diana's pair of sapphire and diamond earrings after engagement ring to wife Kate Middleton.

The Duchess of Cambridge giving her own style twists refashioned the pair of diamond studs into drop earrings.

"Now that they're married, William wanted her to have some of his mother's favorite pieces," an insider told The Daily Mail.

Earlier William said that to make his late mother the part of the occasion he proposed Kate with Diana's 19-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore new drop earrings for the first time at Wimbledon last month and also during the couple's tour to North America.

Princess Diana was spotted wearing the diamond earrings at dozens of events during the 1980s and 1990s and they were amongst Diana's most precious jewels.

This is not the first time, Kate has been compared to Diana before for similar outfits during her official visit to North America.
