Aidos Yerbossynuly suffered his first professional boxing career loss at the hands of contender David Morrell on Saturday, November 5 on a Premier Boxing Champions card for the WBA super middleweight title.

Morrell won via knockout in the 12th round, claiming victory over a badly beaten Kazakhstan pugilist.

After the fight, the 30-year-old was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, something that was confirmed by the boxer's trainer per a report by ESPN.

Then on Sunday, November 6, it was added by Emanuel Savoy, Yerbossynuly's assistant trainer and one of the cornermen for the bout, that the previously undefeated fighter had undergone surgery and then was placed in a medically induced coma.

"Representatives of TGB Promotions and PBC are on the ground in Minneapolis with Aidos' team and we are monitoring the situation closely," a PBC spokesperson said in a statement. "Out of respect for him and his family's privacy, we can't share any details but we ask the boxing community to keep him in your thoughts and prayers."

Yerbossynuly had previously won 16 of his professional bouts and was ranked as the No. 1 contender in the WBA super middleweight division.

But against Morrell, he was outboxed as the Cuban was ahead in the scorecards with two judges having Yerbossynuly losing each round.

Meanwhile, the third judge had it 108-101 entering the 12th round.

In a video posted on social media, Morrell could be seen taunting Yerbossynuly in the 12th round before the referee stopped the fight.

Morrell motioned a "go to sleep" taunt before eventually finishing the Kazakh with a straight left hand that sent Yerybossynuly to the canvas.

After initially celebrating his win, Morrell saw a dazed Yerbossynuly and ran over to assist him to his corner.

A look at the punch stats showed Morrell landing more shots than Yerbossynuly, 237-82.

The Kazakh fighter had not fought since September 2021 when he won via TKO against Lennox Allen in the 10th round.

Savoy also added that he had wanted to stop the fight in the ninth or 10th round but did not do so because Yerbossynuly wanted to continue.

"Aidos wanted to continue. His head coach (Kanat Orakbaev) wanted him to continue. He evaluated Aidos and said nothing was wrong with him," the assistant trainer stated.
