Kevin Bacon and his cast of X-Men mutants are preparing for the film's opening next week June 3rd. The actor will play Sebastian Shaw, a wealthy businessman and member of the Hellfire Club who also possesses mutant abilities that can transform kinetic energy into human strength. In an interview with WENN, Bacon admitted that he was surprised to land the X-Men role when the film first began casting.

I don't know if this says something about my self-esteem but the first thing I thought of when they offered me X-Men was, 'Who fell out?'

The only thing I'm a little concerned about is I don't look anything like the comic book character. He is a gigantic muscle bound guy with a pony tail and dresses like George Washington in his britches. When I saw it I thought, 'I'm kind of a weird choice to embody him.' Obviously Matthew was going in another direction.

The film is a prequel to the successful X-Men films directed by Bryan Singer. It tells the story of how the two mutant leaders Professor X and Magneto worked together before becoming enemies. This will eventually lead to the origin of the X-Men that we know of today.

The X-Men movie franchise took a dip after the first two successful films debut in the year 2000. X-Men: First Class will hold expectations on reviving the franchise as well as propelling some of today's young acting talent.

Alongside Bacon, the X-Men: First Class will feature a cast of new actors and actresses along with some X-Men characters you've most likely have never heard of from the comic series. Even with a few unknowns, the movie will promise to deliver entertainment through the character lineup.
