King Kamehameha Day is celebrated every year on June 11 in Hawaii to honor the ruler. "Kamehameha the Great" was known to be a fearless warrior, a wise diplomat and a highly-respected leader.

In 1810, King Kamehameha I united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom, after years of near-endless conflict.

This day is marked with celebrations in downtown Honolulu with hundreds of leis, of at least 30 feet long, draped over a huge statue of the ruler. Parades and other floral arrangements are also part of the celebrations.
