KEY POINTS

  • Kylie Jenner was criticized after sporting a dark complexion in a new social media post
  • Twitter users accused her of blackfishing because her skin looked darker than her natural color
  • Several fans defended the reality star and said critics should just leave her alone

Kylie Jenner received another round of backlash from her critics for allegedly blackfishing.

The pregnant "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star shared a video of herself on her Instagram Story Sunday. Many noticed that her skin tone was too dark than usual in the clip. Several were quick to call her out for blackfishing — a modern term describing someone who pretends to be black by changing their appearance through makeup, editing or surgery, Page Six reported.

"Look at the picture. It's obvious, Kylie is trying to look Black. Why else is she 10 shades darker than her natural color? Ain't no suntan," one tweeted.

Another netizen mentioned Jesy Nelson and the intense backlash she received for the same issue and wondered why no one was talking about Kylie doing the same. A different netizen agreed saying what Kylie did was offensive and she got away with it. The online user added that Kylie's post even received thousands of positive comments.

Meanwhile, many also defended the "Life of Kylie" star. For them, there was nothing offensive in what she did and critics should just leave her alone.

"You can decide your gender. Why can't you decide your ethnicity? I mean it's all B.S. Why yes to one, but no to the other," one wrote suggesting that the people should just let Kylie do what she wants.

Another user agreed saying that it shouldn't be a big deal in this generation when girls can become boys and boys can marry boys because those things are just similar, they aren't the norms but have been accepted by many.

"She is always beautiful and sexy, whether she is white or black," one fan wrote.

A different user said that Kylie only wants a dark tan and it is not illegal.

The former Little Mix member, Nelson, also received intense backlash for allegedly blackfishing when she dropped the music video of her song "Boyz" earlier this month. Many accused her of intentionally changing her style to appear racially ambiguous, which she denied.

Nelson apologized to those who found her look offensive and said she didn't get any fake tan and her hair was naturally curly. She also mentioned that she didn't receive the same reaction when she was with Little Mix, adding that she's "just 100% being myself."
