The Light between Oceans
“The Light Between Oceans” was released in theaters on Friday, September 2. DreamWorks

Most celebrate Labor Day weekend with trips to the beach and backyard barbeques. However, it’s also the perfect time to hit the movies — especially with Tropical Storm Hermine heading down the east coast. Check out the top five films to watch in theaters over the 2016 holiday weekend:

“The Light Between Oceans” (PG-13)

Watch Michael Fassbender fall in love with Alicia Vikander in this new release. A lighthouse keeper and his wife are happily married, but unable to start a family. A rowboat with a dead man and an infant girl appears to answer their prayers.

“Morgan” (R)

“Morgan” is a new release and a must-see for science fiction lovers. The flick is about a bioengineered child that goes rogue at a top-secret facility. “House of Cards” alum Kate Mara stars.

“Don’t Breathe” (R)

“Don’t Breathe” is the horror film that everyone is talking about. The movie has been in theaters for a week already and managed to bring in $28 million at the box office. That’s impressive with a budget of $9.9 million. Just beware — some moviegoers have said that it’s so frightening that they had to leave the theater.

“Sausage Party” (R)

“Sausage Party” is an animated comedy — but it’s definitely not for kids. Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig lend their voices to this hilarious movie about food items that find out the cold, hard truth about what happens when they leave the supermarket. It will definitely change your views on barbeques.

“Pete’s Dragon (PG)

If you’re looking for a family-friendly film to watch this holiday weekend then check out the Disney film “Pete’s Dragon.” The story is about a grown daughter of a local woodcarver who discovers that her father’s story about a dragon in the woods is not just a tall tale.
