A grieving family in Los Angeles wants the teen driver of the Lamborghini involved in the crash that caused their daughter’s death to be charged as an adult.

Monique Munoz’s mother and stepfather want the 17-year-old son of L.A. business James Khuri prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law after crashing his Lamborghini Urus into the 32-year-old’s Lexus.

Carol Cardona, Munoz’s mother, told Fox News she believes Khuri’s wealth has contributed to the delay in the teen’s prosecution.

“He killed my daughter,” Cardona said. “It’s very frustrating, and I believe he’s being protected given [the] status of his dad.”

The incident took place on Feb. 17, when the teen was driving the Lamborghini SUV at a high speed, made a left turn, and struck Munoz’s vehicle. The victim’s car was split in half, and she died at the scene, according to reports.

As a result of the crash, Khuri claimed his son suffered brain damage, struggles to walk, and was recently released from intensive care.

The suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter on Feb. 23. Since the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office hasn’t filed charges and the teen is minor, he reportedly can't be held in jail.

Isaac Cardona, Munoz’s stepfather, wants the teen driver to face serious consequences. “Even if he’s a juvenile, he was driving an adult vehicle acting like an adult. He should be tried as an adult,” he said.

On Wednesday, Kuhri shared a post on Instagram extending his condolences to Munoz’s family. “I am aware that the time it has taken me to communicate this has caused further pain for everyone affected,” he wrote.

“Knowing that this will never do justice for the family of Monique Munoz, I want to apologize to the Munoz family for the tragic loss of their daughter. There are no words I can say to alleviate the pain that you are experiencing.”

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and the district attorney is in the process of reviewing the case. Police are asking any witnesses with information on the crash to contact West Traffic Detectives.
