The Los Angeles Police Department is under fire after failing to break up a group of anti-maskers protesting in Century City Mall over the weekend.

On Monday, LAPD began trending on Twitter from people slamming the department after learning officers allowed an anti-mask protest to peacefully take place despite their history of using force to break up Black Lives Matter protests.

Anti-maskers were seen protesting in Ralph’s supermarket, Bloomingdale's, and other areas in the mall, violating COVID-19 procedures, harrassing shoppers, and chanting, “No more masks.”

Los Angeles County has more than 819,000 positive COVID-19 cases and over 10,000 reported deaths. Southern California remains one of the hottest spots in the nation for the coronavirus.

Many Twitter users were furious when they learned the LAPD did not use the same kind of force on the anti-maskers, who were violating public health orders, like past peaceful BLM protesters.

“I guess @LAPD only shoots Black unarmed kids & let white scumbags like these do whatever they want. They also can’t understand why EVERYONE hates them. Hopefully there’s a purgatory for all involved here. Either that or Karma,” one person wrote.

Another person added, “Seeing videos of anti-maskers acting like complete fools and not only endangering the lives of everyone around them but also provoking physical altercations while the LAPD just watch and do nothing is exponentially infuriating.”

Meanwhile, one person admitted they were having a hard time understanding the concept of the protest.

“I’m having a difficult time understanding why people are protesting wearing a mask & why they’re awarded restraint w/ lapd when they’re known to be excessively violent. I don’t understand any of this,” the individual wrote.

Earlier this month, a Black Lives Matter rally in front of L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s house took a violent turn. At the beginning of the protest, cops lined the streets wielding batons, Revolt reports.

Things became physical when a protester began using a bull horn, which violated a municipal code against devices that make sounds that carry more than 200 feet. Officers attempted to arrest the individual and, as a result, several officers and protest participants were injured.
