There are plenty of familiar faces in “Captain Marvel,” including Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Jude Law, but there’s at least one major character that fans might not recognize. Lashana Lynch plays Carol Danvers’ best friend Maria Rambeau, and audiences will want to know more about this up and coming star.

She Has Been A Marvel Fan — “I’ve been a big fan for a very, very, very long time. I watch the movies with my friends. We have big discussions afterward and it’s a whole thing,” she said in a promotional interview. “And I’ve been aiming to be part of the MCU, properly, for about two years now.”

She’s British — Maria Rambeau is from Louisiana, but Lynch is actually from England. She graduated from a drama school in London. The actress’ grandparents migrated from Jamaica.

She’s Been To Shondaland — Some TV fans might recognize Lynch from her stint on ABC’s “Still Star-Crossed,” produced by Shonda Rhimes.

She Hit The Gym After Flying — To prep for “Captain Marvel,” Lynch went up in an F-16 and pulled 6.9 Gs. Even Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, vomited during the ride, but Lynch got through it without getting sick. She told Extra that she was so energized that she hit the gym after.

She Auditioned For “Black Panther” — Lynch auditioned for last year’s hit origin movie first.

“Well, the first like, proper audition that I had for Marvel was ‘Black Panther,’” she told Coming Soon. “And having been a Marvel fan anyway and knowing where the comics can go, it was really beautiful to see Marvel just take a stamp and say, ‘We’re going to represent the continent right now and we’re going to represent just how beautiful a continent can be without being colonized.’ So that really got me in my soul, because I think it just did so much for the black community and people of color in general.”

“Captain Marvel” hits theaters Friday.
