“Captain Marvel” is going to introduce a new hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Carol Danvers has powers that audiences haven’t seen before.

Air force pilot Carol Danvers is very much human, but she has Kree DNA (how exactly that happened will be revealed in the movie). That means that she’s a human with some extraterrestrial abilities that take her higher, further, faster.

Like Captain America, Thor and others, Captain Marvel has superhuman strength. She has great reflexes, endurance and agility. That’s all thanks to her alien DNA. That’s just the beginning of Captain Marvel’s powers, though.

Energy blasts are probably going to be her most commonly used ability. A clip revealed that Carol will call them “photon blasts” in the movie, but essentially, it’s just a big blast of energy that comes out of her hands. A “Captain Marvel” clip reveals Carol (Brie Larson) shows her powers to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) by blasting a jukebox.

She isn’t just limited to shooting energy blasts out of her hands, though. She can manipulate energy however she’d like, whether absorbing it or using it to sustain herself when she doesn’t have food or water. She can also amplify the energy up to the strength of a nuclear weapon.

What makes her stronger than any of the other Avengers, however, is her ability to go “binary.” Captain Marvel went by the alias Binary when she was working with the X-Men in the comics, but expect that storyline to be simplified for the big screen. In the trailers, it’s clear that Captain Marvel will have her binary powers, and they’re pretty out of this world.

Binary powers “can bestow her with the might of a white hole, allowing her to generate and control any form of radiation or gravity,” according to Marvel. That’s likely what audiences are seeing when Carol’s eyes go white, and it looks like her entire body is radiating cosmic energy.

Her hybrid DNA also gives her the power to fly. She doesn’t have to worry about how far up she goes because she can breathe in space while traveling super fast throughout the galaxies.

The comics do not generally consider time travel to be one of her powers (though she occasionally ends up in different eras). Yet it seems Captain Marvel can time travel in the movies. Samuel L. Jackson told Entertainment Tonight that Carol is “one of the few people in the Marvel [Cinematic] Universe that can time travel.”

It certainly seems like Carol will be able to win the fight against the Skrulls in “Captain Marvel,” in theaters Friday, but more importantly, she sounds like a great match for Thanos (Josh Brolin) in “Avengers: Infinity War,” due out April 26.
