KEY POINTS

  • Galio can be played as a roaming burst mage, a full tank or a CC-heavy support
  • He has excellent sustain against magic damage champions
  • Galio is best chosen as a counter-pick, but he works well even against AD-heavy teams

Galio is the latest addition to “League of Legends: Wild Rift’s” roster of tanks. While The Colossus is primarily designed to fight as his team’s frontline, he can be built to fill other roles in other lanes as well.

Players can take him to any lane as an AP bruiser, mid-lane mage, disruptive tank or CC-based support. Here are a few Galio builds and some general tips on how to use him at his maximum potential in “Wild Rift.”

Abilities and Laning

Galio plays best against magic damage champions because of his second ability’s passive that gives him a magic-absorbing shield. This gives him excellent lane sustain and poke resistance, granting better trading potential.

With this in mind, it’s best to consider using Galio as a counter-pick against mid-laners like Lux and Orianna or Baron Lane AP tanks like Malphite.

Galio himself mostly deals magic damage, and his main damaging abilities are effective against tanks and squishy targets alike. His passive, Colossal Smash, empowers his next basic attack to deal AoE magic damage, while his first ability, Winds of War, deals both flat and percentage max HP damage.

Galio thrives in the middle of a fight. His second ability, Shield of Durand, grants him damage reduction and an AoE taunt, forcing the enemy to attack Galio instead of his team. Pair this ability with the knock-up from Justice Punch to guarantee a CC chain.

His ultimate, Hero’s Entrance, deals damage and knocks out all enemies around a target allied champion’s location. While these effects are nice, hitting them is not the priority. The most important part is that the ability grants Galio a cross-map ganking and initiation tool. This can easily turn the tables in an unfair fight or deter an enemy from chasing an ally through Galio’s sheer presence alone.
