A younger version of George Lucas is appearing in the winter premiere of “Legends of Tomorrow.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that the time aberration in Season 2, episode 9 of the “Arrow”-“The Flash” offshoot is that Lucas quits film school.

Guggenheim said that Lucas’ career shift is going to deeply affect Ray (Brandon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano), as both Legends are avid fans of the filmmaker’s works. “As a result [of Lucas’ decision to quit film school], he never makes ‘Star Wars’ or ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark.’ As a result, Ray, who became an engineer because of ‘Star Wars,’ and Nate, who became a historian because of ‘Raiders,’ slowly start to lose their brilliance, because those things that inspired them to become who they are didn’t exist.”

The exec producer described the episode as “Flowers for Algernon with Ray and Nate,” which is a nod to the science fiction short story and subsequent novel written by Daniel Keyes in the 1960s.

“We were watching a cut of it, and I said to [fellow exec producer Greg [Berlanti] that 209 is either going to be the episode where we’ll say that the show found a new gear in terms of how zany it can be, or it’s the episode that’s going to get us all fired,” Guggenheim said of how ambitious the upcoming winter premiere is. “It really is. You’re laughing out loud, I think with it, but it’s like, ‘Are we really doing this?’ It’s the ’70s bar fight on steroids. The whole episode is that level of crazy.”

The younger version of Lucas will be played by Matt Angel, who currently portrays Officer Mike Veach on MTV’s “Sweet/Vicious.” Angel revealed that he landed a role on “Legends of Tomorrow” in a tweet in October. Earlier today, the “Grimm” actor took to Twitter to confirm the role he’s playing. See his tweets below:
