A Liverpool insider reminded Reds fans not to expect a lot from Diogo Jota in his nearing return to action.

Jota has been back in training with the senior team and is likely to be included in Jurgen Klopp’s line-up soon. However, Liverpool journalist Joel Rabinowitz, who has been covering news from Anfield, made a surprising claim about the Portuguese striker’s much-awaited comeback.

In an appearance on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s “Blood Red” podcast, Rabinowitz bared that Jota has already rejoined the first team, but contrary to what many are expecting, the 24-year-old isn’t back in his lethal form yet.

“I think we need to be a bit careful and not presume that just because [Diogo] Jota’s fit again he comes straight back in and solves all the problems because I don’t think he will,” Rabinowitz said.

“Not least because he doesn’t have match sharpness, he’s been out for nearly three months now since the Midtjylland game, so he obviously will bring quality and variety back to the team, but I think just to kind of measure our expectations with him because it might be a while before we see the pre-injury version of Jota again,” he added.

Though Rabinowitz’s assessment of Jota is not very positive, Liverpool players are thrilled to see the prolific striker healthy again.

“In a really tough week for a few reasons, of course, seeing Diogo back on the pitch brought a smile to everyone’s face,” Liverpool left-back Andy “Robbo” Robertson recently told Liverpool Offside. “He was flying up until his injury, he really made an impact coming into the team, a new signing hitting the ground running with goals, assists and the way he was going about his business.”

“So, great to have him back,” he continued. “He has obviously been out for a long period of time, he’s looking really good in training, looking sharp. So, I’m sure he’s looking to make up for lost time.”

Since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers for Liverpool in the past summer, Jota has made 17 appearances for the Reds. In the process, he managed to score an impressive nine goals, instantly making him an Anfield star.

It can be recalled that in December, the highly-rated forward suffered a knee injury that has seen him left out of Klopp’s squad.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is rumored to be “closely” monitoring Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid. Recent reports from Spain revealed that Klopp’s side is considering a transfer move for Rodrygo, who has been likened to Neymar, as a suitable “alternative” for Jota.
