  • Liverpool may be able to sign Anderlecht star Jeremy Doku if the club makes an "amazing offer"

  • Van Eetvelt confirmed that Liverpool has not made a concrete offer for Doku despite reports

Anderlecht CEO Karel van Eetvelt may have hinted that one way Liverpool could sign Jeremy Doku, a youngster Jurgen Klopp considers to be Sadio Mane's successor, is to make an “amazing offer.”

The reigning Premier League champion currently houses some of the best players in the world – Mane and Mohamed Salah. But in order to prolong its English top-flight reign, Liverpool is looking to sign younger players who have the potential to continue what the pair has started.

Among the top targets of the Reds this summer is Doku. Liverpool’s interest in the Anderlecht rising star dates back to 2018 before the youngster signed with the Belgian side.

Though Klopp’s side wasn’t able to seal a deal for Doku at the time, Anderlecht's CEO recently suggested in an interview with Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad that a move for the youngster may not be impossible for the English club. However, the Reds would need to make an offer that he can't refuse in order to bring in Doku.

“Only at a Belgian club you can never say that something is impossible,” Van Eetvelt said. “If, say, Liverpool suddenly comes up with an amazing offer, you have to look at it. How much? I would rather not add an amount to that, but AA Gent set the tone with David.”

However, the Anderlecht CEO clarified that no offers have been made and Doku's links with Liverpool remain speculations for now.

Back in 2018, the Reds competed with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Ajax and PSV for Doku’s signature. However, the youngster’s parents decided on Anderlecht in the end.

In an interview with the same outlet in February, David Doku recalled how their family was welcomed by Liverpool. According to David, Liverpool was their first choice and Klopp said that his son was a “potential successor to Mane.”

However, Doku got “distracted” and a deal did not come to fruition.

“My preference was Liverpool. How we were received there, damn,” David recalled. “The trainer [Jurgen] Klopp explained how he saw a potential successor to Sadio Mane in Jeremy.

“Steven Gerrard showed us videos with tactical analysis. At the training complex [Simon] Mignolet, Mane and [Georginio] Wijnaldum came to talk to us. Yet Jeremy was distracted by the talk. Liverpool panicked,” he continued.

On Aug. 19, Doku opened up about Liverpool’s interest in signing him in an interview with Sport Magazine. The youngster even said that Mane even came and talked to him during a visit at Anfield.

“It was crazy, really,” Doku said. “I was only 15. They invited me with my parents. They made me visit everything. The stadium, the training complex, and we were welcomed by the top. Sadio Mané came to talk to me, Jürgen Klopp was interested by me.”
