  • Mo Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 from Roma
  • He is contracted with the Reds until 2023 summer
  • Salah has already netted 30 goals for Liverpool this season

Liverpool FC superstar Mohamed Salah has stated he doesn’t know whether he’ll be able to agree to a new contract at Liverpool, stressing that everything is not about money.

He also added that it’ll be a "really sad day" when he parts ways with the Anfield side.

Salah has just one year left on his contract with Liverpool. Negotiations over a potential extension have been underway between both the parties for a very long time now with no solution in place.

There have been speculations about Salah’s wage demands. The Egyptian King has been an influential figure in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool since his arrival in 2017, helping the Reds win the Champions League and Premier League, among other trophies.

In an interview with FourToFour, Salah was asked if he was surprised by the talks around his contract situation. To which he replied,” "Yeah. Er, I think so?"

"But if they want me to go, that’s something different!" Liverpool’s No. 11 joked.

Salah, who will turn 30 later this year, insisted that he has not been delaying signing a new deal with Liverpool because of more money.

"I don’t know, I have one year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract, it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want," said Salah, before adding he isn’t worried about his current situation.

"I’m not worried, I don’t let myself worry about something. The season didn’t finish yet, so let’s finish it in the best possible way – that’s the most important thing. Then in the last year, we’re going to see what’s going to happen," the Egypt national said further.

Salah, who has already netted 30 competitive goals for the Merseyside club in the 2021-22 campaign, has admitted that whenever he leaves the club, it will be deeply emotional.

"To play in that atmosphere and to see the fans always behind me… I have banners in the stadium, two or three, and they’re always singing my song. It’s going to be a really sad moment," added Salah.

If Liverpool fail to reach an agreement with Salah in the near future, the Anfield side will definitely look to cash in on the forward. Salah’s current market value is around $109 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Liverpool have already clinched the League Cup title, by defeating Chelsea in the final earlier this year. The two sides are set to face off once again next month in the FA Cup showdown. In addition, Liverpool are very much alive in the Premier League and Champions League as well.
