Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball and his agent, Harrison Gaines, have decided to part ways. The Lakers youngster confirmed it was a mutual decision and had nothing to do with his recent lawsuit against Big Baller Brand co-founder Alan Foster.

Gaines has been Ball’s agent since the point guard left UCLA and the latter only had praise for his now former representative. The 21-year-old was Gaines’ first client and the guard insisted there was no relation between the lawsuit filed against Foster and his agent’s exit.

Ball has sued the co-founder of the Big Baller Brand for damages of at least $2 million and made it clear he had the full support of Gaines during the entire situation. According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Foster concocted a scheme that saw him use company money and buy property in Ethiopia.

“Harrison Gaines has been a trusted advisor and close friend for many years," Ball told ESPN in a statement. "He guided my NBA career with integrity and always had my best interests at heart."

"Harrison has always had my back and although we will no longer be working together after mutually deciding to part ways; our relationship will always be bigger than basketball," the Lakers point guard added.

Gaines, who was never part of the Big Baller Brand and not someone hired by Ball’s father LaVar Ball, has his own sports agency, SLASH Sports. He represents former NBA players Jamaal Franklin, Isaiah Austin and Jabari Brown among others.

The SLASH Sports founder also had kind words about his now former client and confirmed the split was mutual. Gaines wished Ball “great success” for his future, which could very well be away from the Lakers if the team decides to make another move for New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis in the summer.

“Lonzo Ball was the first client to sign with me. He has been nothing short of phenomenal and is one of the bright young NBA Stars. I thank him and his family for giving me an opportunity," Gaines told ESPN in a statement. "Mutually, we have decided to part ways. I wish Lonzo great success in the future. As I turn this page, I will continue to work hard for all of my clients."
