KEY POINTS

  • "Lucifer" Season 5 may be the last
  • Tom Ellis is reportedly engaged in contract renegotiation
  • The producers are ready to end with Season 5

“Lucifer” Season 5 may end up being the last for the beloved TV series even though the producers and the fans are hoping for Season 6. The show’s future is in some trouble because there are reportedly some problems with the contract negotiations for lead cast member Tom Ellis, who plays the role of the devil on the show.

Sources have told TV Line that Ellis and Warner Bros. Television are currently engaged in renegotiations of the actor’s contract for Season 6, and the discussions are reportedly not going well. The studio made an offer to the actor, which he apparently rejected. The negotiations have reportedly stopped after that.

Warner Bros. Television is said to have an upper hand in the renegotiations because Ellis already has a contract for Season 6. The actor will be guilty of breach of contract if he refuses to honor it. However, the studio is said to have “sweetened the pot” in his contract a few times during the negotiations, but sources have said that there is limit to what they can offer the star.

The fans are eagerly waiting for “Lucifer” Season 5 and Ellis has got a lot of praise for his portrayal of the character. The studio executives also want the actor to be “happy” with his contract, but insiders have revealed that they have already offered the best possible deal to the actor.

All the other cast members along with showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson are keen to return for another season, according to sources. The show’s popularity has also been increasing with an expanding audience. Ellis’ character was a part of the recent “Crisis On Infinity Earths” crossover in which he helped John Constantine (Matt Ryan) with details about a complicated magical ritual. The event opens up the possibility to expand the show and the stories it can explore in the future.

The producers, however, are ready to end the show. After the TV series was cancelled, it got picked up by Netflix to give the producers a chance to complete the story in the way they always wanted. The tile of the finale episode “A Chance At a Happy Ending” suggests that the producers are ready to end with “Lucifer” Season 5.
