This man was on a risky treasure hunt! He tried to jump into a lion enclosure believing that there were diamonds hidden there.

G Sai Kumar, 31, attempted to jump into the lion enclosure at Nehru Zoo Park in Hyderabad, a city in southern India, to the horror of parkgoers Tuesday. The incident has been caught on camera and it has gone viral on social media.

In the footage, Kumar could be seen seated on a boulder along the border of the enclosure. An African Lion was strolling at the bottom of the boulder. Some people were shouting at the man, asking him to be careful.

The park officials reached the spot after some visitors alerted them about a man walking on the boulders. They helped Kumar get down from the ledge and handed him over to the police.

A park official said walking on the boulders was prohibited.

"Lions are released in the exhibited enclosure at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad which is an absolutely prohibited area. The man was rescued and caught by the zoo staff and handed over to the Bahadurpura Police station," the official said in a statement, India Today reported.

"He told us he was looking for diamonds which he believed were hidden in the lion's enclosure. He appears to be mentally disturbed. We will inform his parents and will examine his mental condition too," officer D. Durga Prasad told the Indian Express.

Police said Kumar was not trying to kill himself. The man reportedly told officers that he has not gone home for a long time even though his parents live in a nearby village.

"He says he has been roaming around for the last 17 years. We don't know how he went inside. We are verifying his claims," Prasad told the outlet. "Had the staff not stopped him, he would have been dead."

No case has been registered against Kumar.
