In a horrific incident, a father in India beheaded his teenage daughter and then walked to a nearby police station carrying the severed head.

Local media reports said people were shocked when they saw the man calmly walking on the street with the severed head in his hand. Before he could reach the police station, local residents informed authorities and officers intercepted him mid-way. The man admitted to police that he killed his 17-year-old daughter. He was arrested immediately. The incident took place Wednesday evening in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the man was angry as his daughter was allegedly having an affair with a youth, which he did not approve of, NDTV reported.

"I did it. There was no one else. I closed the latch and did it. The body is in the room," he said in a video recorded by police.

The accused, identified as Sarvesh Kumar, used a sharp-edged weapon to behead his daughter. The victim was the eldest among four children – three girls and a boy.

"Sarvesh is a vegetable vendor. A few days ago, he spotted his daughter in a compromising position with a youth. He made up his mind to teach his daughter a lesson. Sarvesh's wife has also testified this in her statement to police," a senior police officer told India Times.

Meanwhile, authorities said that a junior officer was suspended after a photo surfaced online showing him strolling inside the police station carrying the girl's severed head.

"We have also taken serious note of a photo which shows a police officer carrying her head inappropriately. The cop has been suspended," Kapil Deo Singh, a police officer, told NDTV.

Last year, a 30-year-old man decapitated a female relative and later walked into a local police station with her severed head. This incident too happened in India. Authorities said at the time that the man killed the woman on suspicion of "practicing witchcraft." He later surrendered himself to the police.
