A man was arrested Saturday for beheading his neighbor and attacking two others before fleeing. The incident took place in Kericho, Kenya, on Friday night.

Police said 25-year-old Dennis Korir arrived at his neighbor’s home Friday night, armed with a machete. He then picked up a fight with the neighbor, before attacking him with the weapon and running away from the scene. While trying to flee, Korir attacked two others who tried to stop him.

“We tried to arrest the suspect, but he also cut Nehemiah Kaptich on the head and Josephine Langat on her hand,” a witness told the police. Korir then fled from the area and was arrested the following morning.

"The suspect who went into hiding in a nearby maize plantation was arrested around 4 a.m. local time Saturday (9 p.m. EDT Sunday). Officers are back at the scene to retrieve the machete the suspect used," a police officer said, adding that during interrogation, Korir told them he had dumped the weapon in a pit.

"We believe there must be a reason why the suspect attacked his neighbors. Interrogation is still going on," the police officer said, adding that the suspect was drunk when he committed the crime.

Meanwhile, the two injured victims were getting treated at a local hospital while the deceased’s body was moved to a mortuary.

The incident comes a few days after a man fled after beheading a 21-year-old woman in Nkabune, Kenya. Police said Justa Mwongania was returning to work after the lunch break when the unidentified suspect attacked and beheaded her with a machete. He then fled the scene with the head on one hand and a blood-stained weapon on the other. The shocked villagers then followed the blood trail and discovered Mwongania’s head in a nearby land. Her headless body was found on a road a while later.

“The killer cut her head at the back first then turned and cut her again by the throat then he took the head and ran with it but abandoned it 30 meters from here,” said a witness.
