A 37-year-old man had a tragic death after being sucked into a meat mincer machine used for making hamburgers in a slaughterhouse. The man was repairing the machine when the accident happened.

Rodrigo Roa Alvarez died at the scene of the accident at JBS Seara Alimentos abattoir in the Brazilian city of Dourados on Aug. 29, reports Yahoo News.

The victim was allegedly making final adjustments to the machine with a co-worker when the accident happened. Alvarez asked his colleagues to collect the tools while he videotaped the activity, said reports.

Since he could not capture the machine's working properly, Alvarez decided to get on top of the platform to get a better view. However, he ended up slipping and falling from the platform made of stainless steel. Though he called for help, his ribs had been crushed by then.

The on-site safety supervisor notified emergency services when he realized what had happened. Though paramedics rushed to the scene, Alvarez had died. The victim had more than 10 years of experience as a mechanic.

According to the company, an expert team arrived at the slaughterhouse to carry out a preliminary investigation into the accident.

"With much regret, JBS confirms the death of an employee in an accident at our facilities in Dourados on Sunday afternoon," the abattoir said in a statement.

"The company sends our condolences to the worker's family, who have been receiving all the necessary support. JBS will monitor the investigation being carried out by the authorities and provide any information that may help to clarify what happened," the statement added.

Alvarez is survived by a wife and three children. The investigation continues.

In a similar incident, a 68-year-old factory worker in England's East Yorkshire county suffered life-threatening injuries and had one of his arms amputated following a machine-related incident at his workplace over two years ago. A local court was told that the man had sustained a punctured lung, broken neck, and fractures to his back, ribs, arm and shoulder blade after he became entangled in part of a machine with a rotating workpiece and chuck.
